Field Projects is pleased to present Show 43: SOFT ANIMAL, curated by Daniella Hansen at Be Fluent NYC. SOFT ANIMAL loops around bodies and liberating those bodies - how funny it can be to be free, how beautiful, how serious, how strange.
As we all collectively suffer through this increasingly hostile regime, it can be difficult to remember just how aggressively free we may have felt before. The work in this exhibition liberates the body through playfulness, rumination, humor, subversion, gender commentary, and self-reflection. These works take the body back from those who would aim to control it.
In the words of Mary Oliver, one of the great poets of joy amongst pain;
“You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on."
Special thanks to Be Fluent NYC for generously hosting the exhibition.
